2011 US Open of Beach Volleyball Qualification Process
The 2011 US Open of Beach Volleyball will be held at Hahana Beach in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The event will host 16 Men’s teams and 16 Women’s teams from the US competing for a total purse of $150,000.
Players may qualify to compete in the 2011 US Open of Beach Volleyball in the following ways:
1. June 10-11, 2011: Win the Siesta Key, FL, Corona Light Wide Open.
Qualified: Men’s team of Sean Scott/John Hyden
Women’s team of Brittany Hochevar/Lisa Rutledge
2. June 25-26, 2011: Win the Seaside Heights, NJ, Corona Light Wide Open.
Qualified: Men’s team of Matt Prosser/John Mayer
Women’s team of Jenny Kropp/Whitney Pavlik
3. July 30-31, 2011: Place in the top 4 of the Chicago, IL, Corona Light Wide Open.
Qualified: Men’s team of 1. Loomis/ WIlliams, 2. Halverson/ Roberts, 3. Carambula/ Growtowski and 4. Souza/Monteiro
Women’s team of 1. Fopma/ Jones, 2. Gray/ Pazo, 3. Day/ Hughes and 4. Hunkus/ Lowe
4. August 20-21, 2011: Place in the top 4 of the Hermosa Beach Corona Light Wide Open.
Qualified: Men’s team of 1. Mariano / Ratledge, 2. Jennings / Lane, 3. Wong / Vanderwerp and 4. McColloch / Allen
Women’s team of 1. Batt / Sweat, 2. Synder / Lewis, 3. Davis / Lima and 4. Caulkins / Lundquist
5. August 26-28, 2011: Win the Manhattan Beach Open, Manhattan Beach, CA.
i. If the winning team has previously qualified, then the entry will be awarded to the highest finishing team of the MBO that has not earned a berth based on CLWO points.
6. By occupying one of the top three spots in the FIVB rankings as of August 25, 2011. The invitation must be accepted by no later than 5pm PDT on August 25th.
7. September 1, 2011: Cincinnati Qualifier on Thursday, September 1st prior to the US Open main draw. The men's and women's qualifier fields will be limited to a total of 16 teams per gender. The men's and women's qualifier will each be single elimination and will determine two (2) entries into the main draw. The field for the qualifier will be determined and seeded by USAV Beach Rankings for any teams not automatically exempt into the main draw. Any ties in rankings/seedings will be decided by using Corona Light Wide Open points.
